Charming Hinterland Farm Wedding - Polka Dot Bride

Charming Hinterland Farm Wedding - Polka Dot Bride

The relaxed, cheeky feel to Elizabeth and Michael's wedding has me grinning to myself today! Not only is their charming hinterland farm wedding a beautiful one, it is also sweet and fun, with the bridal party having some sporting fun in the apple orchard during their portraits. The couple wanted a playful, garden party with plenty of florals and pastels, and chose Indie Lane Photography to capture their day.

Elizabeth remembers how she and Michael met and fell in love."We met in Canada during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. We were both working for the same company in Whistler/Vancouver (my hometown) and Michael was on a working holiday visa in Canada at the time. He was due to move to Qatar after the Olympics, but decided to stay in Canada to be with me..."

"Michael wore an Azzaro suit in dark navy with a light blue tie and crisp white shirt - very classic and fresh against his tan!"

Meg from Five Little Birds created Elizabeth's intricate up do, as well as the hair styles and makeup for the entire bridal party. The bride chose a fitted, strapless dress with sweetheart neckline from Tara Keely, with white lace. She chose this dress as she loved how feminine the lace looked and felt, and mentions that having a strapless gown felt nice and cool for their summer wedding.

The ceremony was held in the apple orchard, and Elizabeth walked down the aisle to "Sing Your Heart Out" by the Trews. She mentions that they wanted a bright, casual, playful ceremony with lots of jokes and laughing. Their celebrant, Fiona Lee Daniel, told the couple's story, and they wrote their own vows, which Elizabeth says were sentimental yet humorous; very genuine and real. They also had a live guitar playing throughout their ceremony as a sweet, romantic touch.

Donna Nugent from Indie Lane Photography was their photographer. Of Donna, Elizabeth gushes, "She was beyond amazing! So down to earth, calm, casual, very fun and with playful ideas. It turns out that Donna went to school with Michael's sister, so there was a lovely connection there. Donna was also in the midst of moving to Torquay, where we lived for a year, so we all had a common love of the Great Ocean Road. She was a very chilled out, fun, wonderful photographer."

The couple held their ceremony and reception at Allenvale Cottages, about 2km inland from Lorne, which created a perfect hinterland setting, just in from the Great Ocean Road. Elizabeth comments, "It was a beautifully green, farm-like property, with cottage accommodation and a large open barn-like structure overlooking apple orchards, with a small ravine running through the valley surrounded by gum trees. It had a gorgeous rustic feel to the area, with galvanized metal, and plenty of wood. Farm animals walked around the property - a Shetland pony, chooks and ducks walking among the apple orchards. "

Pre-dinner drinks were outside the barn, and the sit down dinner was inside the marquee that was built off the barn (where dancing would commence later on in the night). For their catering, the couple had a la familia dining, with shared platters. The bride mentions, "Our main catering component for the dinner was an Argentine BBQ - 2-3 crosses on display just outside of the marquee where guests could view the cooking!"

Of the styling for their day, Elizabeth's vision was to have lots and lots of flowers - roses and peonies, whites and pastels. She wanted hanging flower baskets in the marquee, flowers over the seating board, ceremony arch, flower boxes down the aisle, adoring the tables. Their stylists were Robyn and Lisa from Lettuce & Co and Elizabeth says were the stand-out vendor from their wedding. "Without them we would not have had the wedding we had. They came on the scene about a month prior to the wedding, but helped coordinate the theme a year out, as well as engaged vendors for the desserts and all of the decorations. They have the most stunning, minimalist styling. Excellent at not overcrowding the decorating. All of the styling flowed beautifully, they really followed the garden-party, rustic, floral theme. They also created peace of mind for us, and with so many guests flying in from overseas, Michael and I were really able to relax and enjoy the days leading up to the wedding rather than hectically organising all of the little details and timing."

The gorgeous dessert table and cupcakes were create by Give Me Sugar, and was styled by Lettuce & Co.

The couple reflects on the what made their day so special. "The venue, our photographer, the stylists, the amazing flowers, our guests, the sunny weather - it really was the happiest day of our lives..."

Elizabeth and Michael chose C2 Films to beautifully capture their day, and create their wedding video.

Congratulations on your very lovely wedding Elizabeth and Michael, and thank you to Indie Lane Photography and Lettuce & Co for sharing it with us.
