Elegant and Rural South of France Wedding - French Wedding Style

It's back to school for a lot of people this week and it feels like that too on FWS as we start the week with a fabulous an elegant and rural South of France wedding, captured by FWS vendor Fleur Challis Photography.

This beautiful wedding was held at Domaine Fontaine due mas in the wonderful Languedoc Roussillon region of the South of France. If you are looking for more wedding venues in the Languedoc Roussillon region then take a look through our past real weddings from the area here.

Beautiful bride Josephine takes us through her big day: "When I first started thinking about what I wanted our wedding to look like, I realised I didn't really have a theme in mind. I liked the elegance we had experienced at a Buckingham Palace garden party, where we got engaged, but I also wanted aspects of the rural, rustic countryside I had grown up in. James didn't have many opinions but we both agreed it must be outside - neither of us wanted to be cooped up in a function room. To ensure the weather, we opted for South France so it wouldn't be too hot or cold and would hopefully be dry.

We came across Domaine Fontaine du mas when we were on holiday nearby the year before. Surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, it is the epitome of postcard-picture France! Elegance and simplicity at their best this rural setting was an easy choice for our venue, consisting of three beautifully kept old farm houses, which have all the luxuries we wanted for our special occasion. With lots of kids in tow, ours amongst them, the pool, air con and plentiful grounds to run around in were ideal. We booked with South France Villas and made use of the property manager, Martine, who helped us buy wine and rent a marquee for the wedding.

We wanted to keep the day casual, and I knew we wouldn't need much décor as the venue was so beautiful, so I did not bother with a wedding planner, instead taking on the challenge myself-it was hard work at times but ultimately a very satisfying project to complete.

Because there wasn't really a theme (except a loose colour code of sage greens, pastel blues and pinks, and lavender), I just bought things along the way, so it ended up being quite a mismatch look with roses cut from the venue gardens, feathers scattered on the tables, little plastic butterflies lazer-cut with our wedding date, wooden cutlery, paper plates etc... But it all just added to the casual effect and made it feel more like a garden party than a formal wedding, which is what we wanted.

For my dress I went directly to Ivory & Co and dealt with the Designer, Sarah, who was fantastic. With the help of my Mum and sister, I settled on Darjeeling, with lace overlays, lace capped sleeves and cut out back. It matched the delicate elegance of the venue perfectly. My Mum made the Maid of Honour's dress and I found my daughters dress at Boots. My son's outfit came from M&S and James had his and the Best Man's suits made by a tailor in Brighouse called J.W. Ellison & Co.

Both the photographer and celebrant were lucky internet searches, and were amazing. Raymond and Cherry Thatcher made sure all the little details were finished while I got ready, then delivered a really relaxed and light ceremony. Fleur Challis and her partner kept to our desire to have candid shots, but also arranged shots for us when we asked, and they were all beautiful. We still haven't chosen our favourite to print and put on the wall!!

Great advice there from our bride Kate, for more information about the Languedoc region click here.
