Alex proposed to Allison at their home on Christmas Eve. "He had prepared a delicious meal, served it by candlelight and we shared it with a bottle of my favourite red wine," Allison remembers. "I wasn't completely surprised by his proposal, which is a good thing because I really don't like surprises! He executed this event perfectly," she says.

For their wedding, the couple chose a gorgeous venue, The Ivy Restaurant in the Thousand Islands along the St. Lawrence River. "Stunning views of the water and adjacent snow-covered woodland made a perfect backdrop for a romantic winter celebration," Allison says. A colour palette of white, silver, burgundy and grey helped to tie together the winter wonderland theme and add some romance to the décor. "We chose these colours because burgundy is a warm, luxurious colour that added richness and depth to the winter landscape of crisp white and grey tones, and we added silver elements to the décor for a touch of sparkle," Allison says.

The bride and groom didn't choose their venue just for its gorgeous views and ideal location, though. "One of the main reasons we chose The Ivy Restaurant for our venue was because of the amazing food. Our menu was comprised of four courses: the first being a cream of Gruyère soup with caramelized onions and sourdough crostini; followed by a red beet carpaccio and arugula goat cheese salad; the main course was a braised beef short rib cooked to perfection; and dessert was the best sticky toffee pudding ever," Allison says.

To end off a night of delicious food on a sweet note, Allison and Alex gifted their guests with chocolate wedding favours. "Each guest received two truffles at their place setting. Alex and I chose the chocolates to represent our favourite flavours: a dark chocolate with amaretto and a milk chocolate with orange cream," she says.

Aside from the food and their breathtaking venue, Allison says the best part of the day was walking down the aisle towards her groom. "The feeling you get when you see everyone you love together in one place and also watching your soul mate standing so proudly at the front is incredible - definitely a moment I will never forget," she says.
