What to wear when you're surrounded by stylish ladies and confronted by cold weather? It's a quandary that we put to our Associate Fashion Director, Kate Bellman. Yes, we want to look great at Fashion Week. We also want to keep all of our toes and fingers. And, true, we want to make the best-dressed lists and street-style blogs, but we don't want to look like we're trying too hard.

So, Kate, what should we pack for Fashion Week? Here are her suggestions for our suitcases.

Anything menswear

"We're still falling for deconstructed classics thanks in particular to Demna Gvasalia's influence at Balenciaga," Kate says. "Whether a classic trench (like this Burberry coat) with updated sleeves or plaid shirting worn slightly askew (as done on this top by Public School), this trend will be setting the tone for my wardrobe this season." Ours too now, thanks to you, Kate.

Puffer coats

"Looks like it's going to be a crazy week for the weather. The puffer is not only great for stuffing into the suitcase, but can protect you against the elements for the entirety of Fashion Week," recommends Kate. "We are particularly loving ones that are overly oversized or in an impact color like this Coach piece." Who doesn't love a cuddly coat?

Tailored jackets

"No matter how you wake up feeling on the inside, the tailored jacket helps you exude confidence. This Tibi tuxedo jacket makes a play for strong, female-power dressing," Kate says. We can picture it over tees on the weekend and with trousers for the workday. Sounds like a packing pro move.

Romantic dresses

"Fashion Week calls for a variety of events at all hours of the day. The romantic dress can transition seamlessly from watching a show to an after-hours get-together," Kate says. " This Vetements dress looks great now with brightly colored opaque tights and booties, and it will continue as your go-to staple through spring." Agreed. Plus bright colors help the paparazzi spot you.

Pointed-toe Chelsea boots

"Although I applaud those who can make it through the long days of Fashion Week in sky-high heels, pointed-toe Chelsea boots-like these from ACNE -provide an equally sleek but comfortable alternative," Kate suggests. "Power points are the new direction in toe silhouettes." Noted and purchased.

Statement bags

"Sometimes the only wardrobe element that feels like it's getting any facetime during Fall Fashion Week is your coat and bag. That's why both need to pack a punch! This statement tote from Saint Laurent is a total conversation starter while still functional enough to carry a day's worth of necessities," Kate says. What's not to love?

Statement earrings

"It's the year of the ear," Kate claims. "From artful and sculptural to killer crystals, no earlobe should be bare this Fashion Week! This pair from Ashley Williams is equal parts tough and glam." We hear you loud and crystal-clear, Kate.
