Sofia and Adam's Wedding at the Liberty Warehouse

Sofia and Adam's Wedding at the Liberty Warehouse

We're loving the moody romance of Sofia and Adam's industrial wedding at Liberty Warehouse. The couple, both from New York, loved the idea of saying their vows with the Statue of Liberty as a backdrop. Designed and styled by the Grey Collective member Bespoke Only, the event details were warm and intimate including chalkboard lettering by Papersoul and whimsical tablescapes with florals by Peartree Flowers. The team enlisted the skills of Pat Furey behind the lens and the gorgeous photos are all below for your viewing. Enjoy!

From the bride: Adam and I knew we wanted to get married at the Liberty Warehouse the moment we stepped foot inside. Its raw industrial space allowed us to bring in personal touches that felt unique to who we are as a couple. We are both from New York so we loved the idea of saying our vows with the Statue of Liberty as a backdrop.

Our hope for our wedding was to create a magical evening that felt intimate, romantic and warm, and each and every decision was made to this end. To achieve this vision, we brought on Melissa Lee from Bespoke Only who went above and beyond in every way possible. Together, we began by choosing a neutral, but warm color palette made up of cream, pewter, and dusty rose. We spent a ton of time strategizing the proper lighting for the vibe we were after. Ultimately we relied mostly on fairy lights and many different types of candles. Julia from Papersoul did hand calligraphy on the mirrors and various chalkboards, welcoming our guests to our happily ever after, and inviting them to share in our favorite cocktails. We worked with Peartree to create whimsical yet classic tablescapes complete with center pieces made up of seasonal foliage with smaller pops of color, and sprinkled with berries for added texture. We placed whole pomegranates and heirloom pumpkins on each of the tables and bars. Pat Furey and Claire Hudson (photography), and Hello Super Studios (film) were there to capture every moment.

I will never forget walking into the reception for the first time after having just been introduced as husband and wife. So many glowing, loving faces welcomed us into that magical room, it felt like a dream. We could not have hoped for anything more. We are so grateful to our friends and family for making it all possible, and we will treasure the memories, photos and videos for many, many years to come.

What made the wedding special and unique?

The Liberty Warehouse is a raw industrial space which allowed us to showcase our personality through the choices we made on decor. Collaborating with our incredibly talented vendors, we were able to create an understated ambiance that was both romantic and welcoming to our guests. We dangled fairy lights along the ceiling, and lit candles throughout the entire space to further the enchanting vibe. And amongst this magical environment, the band was able to get everyone on their feet to dance the night away.

Tell us about the gown and where/how you found it!

My wedding gown was made by Oscar de la Renta, and the combination of lace, floral appliques and delicate beaded touches added a romantic and vintage flair that I was instantly drawn to.

What was the most memorable part of the day?

Walking into the reception for the first time, being announced as the new Mr. and Mrs. Handler, is a memory and feeling that we will cherish forever. As our best friends and treasured family welcomed us into a space that reflected the efforts of two years of wedding planning, the love in the room was palpable. When we heard the first musical notes of "You Are the Best Thing" by Ray La Montagne, for our first dance as a married couple, we knew that this would be the best night of our lives!

Tell us how you met and became engaged.

The Groom's Version: We went to Washington University in St. Louis together during which period I was repeatedly turned down for coffee dates by Sofia. After graduation, since there were so few eligible bachelors back in NYC where we both ended up, she finally conceded to let me take her out for our first date.

The Bride's Version:We went to Washington University in St. Louis for a full four years together without ever having crossed paths. Just days after graduation, when we were both living in NYC, we were introduced by mutual friends at a bar. Adam's good looks and wit earned him an invitation to an upcoming party Sofia was hosting, and the rest was history.

Either way, a mere five years later, Adam planned the most magical proposal to Sofia in Paris and she said yes, without a doubt!
