via

We have a great guest post to share with you lovely people today by one of our Festival Brides recommended suppliers, Nathan of Libra Photographic. He is sharing his top 10 tips to make the most of your wedding. From photography advice to unplugging your wedding and planning your day so you don't run out of time - he is speaking from experience dear readers so definitely take note!

Hi I'm Nathan, a Dorset based wedding photographer, I run Libra Photographic. I've photographed couples in Italy, Dubai, the lake District, at festivals in barns and, the local social club. Every wedding is different but the one thing they have in common is that they are one of the most important days in someones life.

Here, I have put together 10 tips to make your wedding as unique and special as you are and help your photographer along the way.

Its your day...

Remember that it this is your own special day, don't let it be a carbon copy of another wedding. Challenge your photographer to shoot at least one awesome production shot they've not done before, it really gets us going!

Centre yourself...

Like it or not the bride and groom are the centre of attention on the wedding day. At points during the day you'll feel like the pied piper of Hamlyn with an entourage of paparazzi following your every move. Either, unplug your wedding (see below) or simply have a pre wedding shoot with your chosen photographer, at least then you'll know how to look good in front of the camera!

Unplug your big day...

'Unplugging' is simply banning phones, ipads and social media from your wedding. A marmite subject as reaction to being without a phone can cause heated debate. My personal opinion on this is to unplug the ceremony. Not only is it a mark of respect , it is also is the only part of the day that cannot be re-run. Imagine the kiss just after the rings have been exchanged, this usually lasts under a second, your best friend innocently stands to take a photo on their phone, in front of your paid photographer, that moment is lost forever, we can't recreate the emotion felt in that moment. Besides didn't you invite everyone to join you in person, don't let them experience it on their mobile.

I love Pinterest. It is the perfect way for my clients to communicate with me visually. I will not copy what I see but I will definitely get a sense of how your mind works. Create a board of your favourite shots we love to see what makes you tick.

I'm no time lord, even Dr Who would struggle to get a huge group list, documentary, detail and couple shots done in the space most venues allocate. Ask your photographer how long they usually take. Most people are surprised at the length of time and everyone is astonished on the day. Trust us, we've done it before and we only want to make sure you get the best from your wedding day.

It's not a Photo shoot!

My philosophy is that it is your wedding, not my photo shoot. Wedding photographers can easily get carried away with your wedding day, everything photogenic, all the details, your stunning outfits, the location, through in a bit of light and wow. This is why we got into the job, we are creatives but..... we are only, in truth, EVENT PHOTOGRAPHERS! We exist to document one of the biggest events in your life not direct it. Make sure you get time to enjoy your day, its only 10-12 hours and it flies by.

The perfect Portrait...

Both of you will be looking your finest, wearing your happiest face, the perfect day to get the greatest couple portraits. Make time for these, its also a great excuse to get away from the crowd for a breather before diving back in. You only really need one truly fantastic shot, we usually manage several in a very short space of time, planning is key. A pre wedding shoot helps no end with the speed and to create a relaxed expression.

Inject some fun...

At times it can all get a bit serious. Remember your bridal party consists of your closest friends and family. These people have seen you at your best and your worst, don't be afraid to suggest that idea you have lurking in the back of your mind, they know you and won't be surprised, all they want is to help you have the best day ever.

Yes, alcohol flows freely at a wedding but water is so important, we need to make sure we drink plenty of it. Not only will it effect your mood and energy levels, it also affects your skin. If you don't want red and blotchy skin as the day goes on make sure you drink up!

Most people are waiting for the epic fairy to tap them on the shoulder and dazzle them with epic fairy dust, it just doesn't happen. If you want to be epic, go do epic stuff, that is all there is to it. Let us capture the epic nature of your being with our awesome photography.

Thank you so much to Nathan for sharing this guest post with us today.
