Wedding Cake With Multicolor Piping

An unlikely trio—Russian folk art, irises, and her grandmother’s painted metal TV-dinner trays—inspired Dianne Holgate. To achieve the gradations of color in the flowers, she applied liquid royal icing to stenciled designs, then shaded them with a brush. Fondant cake with piped beads, fleurs-de-lis, stringwork, and brush-embroidered irises and forget-me-nots.
