I was recently asked what advice I had for new photographers. It took me a little bit, but here is what my answer was, who else can relate? What you’re looking for doesn’t take fancy new gear or the latest and greatest technology. In fact, it’s the exact opposite. Once you learn to forget all of that and instead focus on light and composition is when you’ll find it. That’s what it took for me. Learning to slow down. Learning to do things differently then everyone else. Learning to stop over complicating things. Most importantly, staying focused on the basics that make a great photograph. It might sound funny coming from me, someone who used to shoot with tons of gear. Not anymore. It’s also a big reason why I shoot with the equipment that I do.
