I smelled a reader's hair: Lovesick Expo season 2015 kickoff

via

The first of our eight nationwide Lovesick Expos happened this past Sunday in Brooklyn, and if this show is any indication, this is going to be a great winter. I flew out from Seattle on Friday, and rolled into the Williamsburg Music Hall at 9am on Sunday to find the space already bustling with vendors setting up their booths. By the time the doors opened at 11, things were looking GAHMAZING!

Then this happened:

Ok fine, that video is from Lovesick 2014, but basically it was just like that. Live music! Burlesque! Booze!

I got to meet wave after wave of so many fabulous, hilarious, gorgeous, in-love people... both existing readers (so many members of our forum came by to say hi!), and new readers. SO MANY AWESOME PEOPLE! For someone who spends most of her life on the internet, it's all very exciting to meet ACTUAL PEOPLE and ACTUALLY HUG THEM. I may have even made a point to smell one reader's hair. (Creepy? Flattering? Both? I don't know, but she smelled really good!)

The Offbeat Bride booth at Lovesick has always historically been very, VERY bare-bones: I have booklets made from our infamous checklist. I have stickers for Offbeat Bride Tribe forum members. I have an Offbeat Bride flask full of whiskey... that progressively becomes less and less full of whiskey.

This year I also added what I call my selfie printer, a Fujifilm Instax printer that essentially prints polaroids from your smartphone. That thing was fucking awesome.

After a few hours of hugging, drinking, talking, and hair-smelling, it was time to hop up on stage to play Vanna White to help announce the winners of the bazillions of dollars-worth of raffle items that were being given away.

(Fashion aside: That amazing dress I'm wearing is from Pretty Parlor in Seattle. It may be the most ridiculously awesome thing I've ever worn - and that is saying something!)

By the end of expo, I think I'd met about 250 engaged folks and 40 amazing vendors (...including the adorable Adronyk Jewelry folks whose work we featured earlier today). The whole thing was just a big ball of SO MUCH FUN, and I can't wait to do it again and again and again for the next six weeks. Honestly, Lovesick Expo season really is the best time of year...
