George Clooney On His Proposal To Amal: 'I Literally Dropped It On Her'

For a man who was once thought to be an eternal bachelor, it sure didn't take George Clooney long to realize he wanted to be with Amal Alamuddin for life.

"It happened pretty quickly," the actor told "CBS This Morning's" Charlie Rose in an interview that aired Tuesday. "I knew fairly quickly that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Amal. But, you know, I have to say, when I asked her...we had never talked about it...there wasn't, like, 'Hey, maybe we should get married.' I literally I dropped it on her."

Clooney said he proposed to the human rights attorney at home with his Aunt Rosemary's records playing in the background.

"Finally, I just said, 'Listen.' You know, I'm 53, at the time, or 52, I think, at the time, and I said, 'You know, I've been on my knee now for about 28 minutes," he said. "So I gotta get an answer out of this, 'cause I'm gonna throw a hip out."

The pair, who first met in Italy, tied the knot in Venice in September 2014.

"I have someone who I can talk to about anything and someone who I care more about than I've cared about anybody," Clooney said of his wife. "So it's really nice."

This isn't the first time the "Tomorrowland" actor has gushed about Alamuddin to the press. At a premiere for the movie recently, he told People magazine that getting married has changed his outlook on the future.

"All I know is that it sort of changed everything in terms of what I thought my future -- my personal future -- was going to be." He continued, "I wasn't always completely optimistic about how it was going to work out personally for me. But now I am."
