How to Get The Perfect Popsicle-Stained Pout

As six-year-olds running around with cherry popsicle-stained mouths, we had no idea we were sitting on a makeup trend that would be erupting in the coming years. If we had known, we would've taken notes for future reference. And while our popsicle-loving palettes may have become more sophisticated over the years (or not), our obsession with the imperfectly lip-stained look has not. In fact, it's hot, hot, hot right now. So to channel our inner children and get the blurred pout - sans popsicle - we enlisted the help of makeup pro to walk us through the stained lip look sweeping the makeup world.

Here's a step-by-step breakdown of how to create the look at home:

Step 1. Using your finger or a small concealer brush, apply concealer to the entire lip area. Use soft, tapping motions to spread the formula on, so it doesn't go on cakey or too thick.

Step 2. Dab your lip color/stain to the center of the lips.

Step 3. Go over the center area one more time with a lip brush, this time applying a slightly more concentrated amount of your lip color.

Step 4. Using a small fluffy brush, diffuse the color by brushing it gently outward.

Step 5. Blur out the area more using your finger as a blotting tool.

Step 6. Apply a glossy tint to the center area and blend it with fingers your fingers to finish the look.
