Annie & Richard's 1970's Bohemian Garden Party Tipi Wedding

Annie & Richard's 1970's Bohemian Garden Party Tipi Wedding

Annie and Richard said I do on the 2nd July 2016 under a grand oak tree at Bawdon Lodge Farm, a beautiful outdoor wedding venue in an area of outstanding beauty within Leicestershire. Described by themselves as being a wedding with a ' bohemian 1970's garden party vibe with lots of wine and dancing,' Annie and Richard most definitely tick the box for 70's hippy cool when it comes to their individual style. We love Annie's bell sleeved free people wedding dress coupled with her flower crown and platform shoes. Richard looks great too in his checkered suit, long hair and beard (we do love a man with a beard!) Their decor echoes that of the 70's too with plenty of fringing, dream catchers and wild flowers but also captures the garden party vibe with hay bales, chalk board signage and paper pom poms.

Captured by Sarah Brittain Edwards Photography and featuring some great DIY ideas (Annie did the flowers herself including all of the flower crowns) Annie and Richard talk us through their day.

We were away in Oxford for a chilled weekend in a cute little hotel. I took a bath and when I came out Rich had our favourite song playing on the record player and handed me a pile of records, with each one having something lovely written on it and the final 'will you marry me' was written on the inside of the record player lid!

Our ceremony was held at Bawdon Lodge Farm, under the big oak tree in front of an archway decorated with flowers and a fringed curtain, with our friends and family watching from haystacks. I walked up the 'aisle' to Scott Mckenzie 'San Francisco'. We also held our reception their in two giant hat tipis. We found our venue through lots of research for the perfect blank canvas to make into our own little 70's wonderland.

My dress was from Free People and was a 70s silhouette with high neck and huge sleeves! I wore tan suede and wood platforms and a large head crown of white flowers made by my Maid of Honour. My jewellery was a simple gold hand bracelet and small gold hoop earrings.

My adult bridesmaids had mustard chiffon long floaty dresses and little bridesmaids had cream lace dresses. They also wore floral head crowns.

Our cake was a Naked cake topped with berries and flowers, made by Groom's step-mum. For our flowers we had meadow and wild flowers tied with jute string for the bouquets and table flowers. Lots of lavender and yellow colours. Succulents on the tables. I did the flowers myself and got them from a wholesale flower market.

I LOVED folk singer Mimi Farina's 70's style wedding in Big Sur, but sadly our budget didn't quite stretch to Big Sur so we tried to do similar on a smaller scale in Leicestershire. We had lots of flowers, dream catchers, fairy lights, pom poms, candles, succulents on the tables and a floral and fringed archway!

The speeches were really lovely, lots of tears and laughs.

Don't sweat the small stuff!
