Stone Fox Bride

"After college I moved to New York determined to do it all differently. My boyfriend and I moved into a luxury skyscraper on the 27th floor of a highrise downtown. I got a job at a teen magazine. 9/11 went down. Popular Culture was like: 'kids, we’re gonna help you forget that just happened.' My business card was bright shiny pink. The entire teenage zeitgeist was bright pink. It was the era of Bring it On and Britney Spears and Mandy Moore. My cubicle mate came to work one morning with a big fat diamond on her finger. Three carats, like candy. I said— how do I get that? And eventually I did. When I was designing my own engagement ring years later, I asked my Dad if he had any loose stones I could set in it’s prongs. I meant family heirloom pieces, of course— rubies, sapphires, emeralds. He thought for a minute, said, in all sincerity, YES, then disappeared in his closet and returned with a handful of pebbles from Lake Michigan in his palm." Thanks to @rebeccasoffer for sending over this pic of me in fullblown storytelling mode from last weeks's @modernloss event at Housing Works bookstore. Snippet of my piece above entitled: "I Don't Want The Diamonds Anymore." (Link to watch in profile!)
