Claire and Luke

There is something ultimately romantic about Sydney Harbour and Claire and Luke (who had their day captured by Oneill & Page Weddings) certainly made the most of it hosting their celebration at Fort Denison- right during Earth Hour no less! That view is never going to stop taking my breath away and combining it with a wedding? That’s my idea of magic.

Claire tells the story of how she and Luke became engaged. She starts, “Luke asked my dad for my hand during a summer holiday at home in Dublin. During the holiday we went to Positano on the Amalfi Coast (Italy) for a few days where Luke surprised me with the proposal. I was so happy and it was extra special to be able celebrate with all of my family back in Ireland. The antique ring is a 2 carat diamond which was also bought from a family jewellers near my hometown. It was all very romantic!”

The bride chose the ‘Princess Evie’ gown from Pallas Couture, she remembers, “Choosing my wedding dress with my mum was a very special moment and I loved that she was there to share the excitement.” Claire’s bridesmaids wore pale pink floor length gowns from Amsale.

Claire walked down the aisle to “Nella Fantasia sung by the Filigree Sopranos. The music was beautifully chosen by my sister Sarah.”

Claire and Luke were married at Monte Sant’ Angelo, Claire remarking, “We were lucky enough to be able to marry at Monte Sant’ Angelo chapel in North Sydney which is a truly stunning chapel with a beautiful white marble alter.”

Of their photographers, Claire recalls, “We had both Shane and Natalie from Oneill and Page Weddings. They were great fun on the day and captured the atmosphere beautifully. We had photos taken at Lavender Bay whilst guests enjoyed a drinks reception under the Harbour Bridge in Kirribilli.”

After photographs, the bridal party joined guests in Kirribilli for the next part of their journey!

Claire remarks, “This is where a ferry collected us all and brought us to Fort Denison Island which was all ours for the evening. Canapes were served on the Battery Lawn before dinner which was in an open marquee that looked back on the bridge, Opera House and sparkling Harbour.”

Deciduous Press created the stationery, the couple naming tables after places instead of using numbers.

The floral arrangements by Angie of Florid were styled in white including freesias (a favourite of mother of the bride), gardenias and bouvardias.

The couple’s wedding day also fell on Earth Day, Claire remarking “It was on the same day as Earth Hour so we saw the city, bridge, Opera House and the little lights of Kirribilli houses (where we lived at the time) go dark across the water. We had an hour of dinner by candlelight. The candles were in ‘storm lights’ so as to protect against any breezes off the water.”

Claire recalls, “There was a really great international feeling, with lots of the Irish guests giving readings and speeches, including my mum who read a special poem at the ceremony.”

For their first dance, Claire and Luke chose their favourite song. Claire telling, “The first dance was to Elton John’s ‘Tiny Dancer’ – and choreographed by the groom! We had been to see Elton at a vineyard in the Hunter Valley with some friends the year before and this was one of our favourite songs. The reception music was by Scott Finnie, The Pianoman who was a huge hit and rocked the island from the very first dance.”

Congratulations Claire and Luke! Thank you for sharing your beautiful day with us! Thank you to  Oneill & Page Weddings for sharing today’s wedding!
