Welcome Jessie Thomson Weddings & Events

Happy Friday wedding lovers! I'm really excited to introduce you to one of our lovely sponsors today. Jessie is an incredible wedding planner AND stylist (you might have spotted her pretty banner over in the side bar), and owner of Cotswolds-based Jessie Thomson Weddings & Events. I adore her sense of style (natural, contemporary and almost always floral) and her awesome organisational skills - Jessie is also super mum to adorable toddler Flora, and with another on the way! When she's not helping her couple's plan luxury, stylish and unique weddings, she my Flourish & Prosper co-founder. See, I told you she was super organised, how else would she fit all that in?!

Hi Jessie, tell us about yourself I used to work in publishing and PR, before I planned and designed my own wedding in 2010 and realised I wanted to do something even more creative and less corporate. I took on an online course in Wedding & Event Planning in my spare time which gave me the confidence (combined with my previous experience) to go ahead and set up my own business. The styling and design element came naturally and has grown so much more over the last two years. Describe your style, who or what inspires you? I would say I'm mostly drawn towards classic but contemporary styling, it features a lot of natural materials and incredible florals - however I'm also not afraid to work with more bold colours and design ideas if it's what reflects my couple's personalities best! I'm mostly inspired by the things that surround me, by interiors and fashion, by people... I pride myself on creating design schemes that are individual to that bride and groom, rather than trying to follow trends. Trend setter or trend follower? I'm not sure I'd count myself as either! Obviously I keep an eye on what's hot and what's not in the industry, but mostly my aim is for wedding design to be timeless and stylish (as opposed to of the moment and fashionable). It's hard not to be inspired by current trends though, sometimes things transcend from the catwalk or interiors that you just can't resist picking up on. Mostly though, I'd like to see a return to more natural, simple and straight up beautiful wedding designs coming through. Less pressure to conform to latest Pinterest craze! How do you work with your couples - do you have a set process? My services are completely bespoke and based on a couple's individual requirements, which are always unique and different. Some need hand holding all the way through the process with supplier recommendations, budget management, guest co-ordination and timelines - others want more guidance on the design elements, creating a colour scheme and moodboard, collaborating with florists and overseeing set up on the day. What's your favourite wedding moment? I always, always get teary when the groom first catches a glimpse of the bride and during the speeches. No matter how many times I've seen the same scene and heard the same sweet words, it always touches me. I also LOVE seeing the venue all dressed and beautiful after many months of planning the design - seeing it come together perfectly is the most wonderful feeling, and watching the couple's face light up when they enter a room is an absolute joy. What's your next challenge? Sadly I'm finding it hard to maintain some of my "on the day" services. At the moment I still offer them, but at some point I can see me needing to make a decision about the minimum support I am able to offer couples... it's tough because I want to help everyone, and some of my loveliest brides were met through working with them only in the final weeks.
