Raley's pieces are made like the women who inspired them and the women who will wear them: purposefully, beautifully and in textiles with muscle. We chatted her up via email to find out more about studio life, what it means to value simplicity and much, much more in this Pop-In@Nordstrom New Classics undercover report.

The Thread: Whether it's a bralette or a slipdress, your design aesthetic is primarily about monochromatic palettes and clean lines-what's the value in simple, down-to-earth, quality design + fewer options? You once mentioned that you come from a long line of women who've worked really hard for what they have-what parts of these amazing ladies' lives move you the most?

Raley: There's a certain quietness that comes with fewer options. The sensory experience is so much more fruitful. We're big believers in the uniform-having an outfit that is timeless and comfortable-and we wanted that to cross over into lingerie. Our pieces are purposefully easy and meant to complement the body, instilling confidence instead of discomfort. Our designs are simple, so as not to take away from the woman wearing it.

Supersoft bralette Why is it that we want lingerie pieces to look as good as they fit + function, considering most folks won't ever see our skivvies (well, generally speaking)?

Both my grandma and mom have always been strong advocates for women's rights. They both worked for nonprofit organizations that supported female self-empowerment. I wanted to instill Land of Women with the same principles.

We're always curious about the power of The Work Space; how would you describe your studio (what does it look, sound and smell like)?

I think it's an overall sense of feeling put-together. We try and focus less on color and more on the feel of the fabrics. When you're wearing a soft sweater and your favorite jeans, it's only natural that you'd want an equally comfortable bra. Feeling completely relaxed, both aesthetically and functionally, is the best possible feeling.

Best (be it the strangest, most inspirational, funniest) ad you've come across:

Our studio very much reflects our brand: minimal and comfortable. We listen to a lot of podcasts- Fresh Air with Terry Gross and Invisibilia are our favorites. We have a nice little collection of palms that I'm particularly proud of. There's always a candle burning, usually Encre Noire by . My dog, Wolfie, sleeps under the desk. Our mood board is the only busy part of the studio; we love pulling dance references and female-centric ads from the '90s. It's such a luxury to customize your workspace, so we try to make it cozy.

What should I be listening to as I strut about my apartment in LoW pieces? (Because we all do that, right?)

My all-time favorite ad is of two sisters laughing (with braces on their teeth) in a Comme des Garçons ad taken by Jim Britt. I think they were his daughters actually. It was such a sincere depiction of natural beauty, adolescence and sisterhood. It's incredibly moving and inspiring.
