Fun Country Mill Party & DIY Wedding - Whimsical Wonderland Weddings

Tim and Jill's nuptials were just the prettiest, these two are one stylish couple indeed.

They chose to host their wedding at The Mill at Ballydugan in Northern Ireland, where they envisioned a big party with their loved ones. Those pink bridesmaids dresses are darling and I adore the multi colour blooms and fun socks worn by the gents.

Jill's lace Mori Lee gown was oh so elegant and her short hair was perfectly accessorised with a veil and embellished hair band. Beautiful. Keep an eye out for a show stopping cake, the sweetest transport and the wonderfully lit dance floor.

Many thanks go to Francis Meaney Photography today for sharing these joyful images.

THE PROPOSAL | For my birthday in October 2013 Tim surprised me with a weekend to Edinburgh. We had recently moved into our first home together in June 2013 so Tim proposing was the last thing I expected. We had a lovely walk around Edinburgh city and when we got back to our hotel room on the Saturday afternoon Tim got down on one knee with the most beautiful engagement ring. After lots of shrieking and hugs of course I said yes!

THE VISION | From the very start we both looked at the wedding as throwing a huge party for our friends and family to celebrate with us so we wanted something fun. I loved the idea of a country/vintage style wedding and had lots of DIY ideas to add a personal touch.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We went to a few wedding fairs to get an idea of what we would need and just enjoyed the planning together from the very start. Luckily for me Tim was interested from the start and we both shared the same vision of something fun and realised that this day was our day to celebrate with friends and loved ones. We had great days out travelling around to meet people who would help bring our wedding together. We found the girls from Sweetheart Vintage at a fair who decorated the whole venue for us with vintage, shabby chic look. Sharing a love of music with my dad we thought of how lovely it would be to have a string quartet play for the ceremony and reception so we contacted Arco from Belfast who created a romantic and fun ambience whilst a caricaturist sat and drew hilarious pictures of our special guests.

THE VENUE | We started viewing a few hotels and realised we wanted something different, quirky and fun. After visiting two venues in Northern Ireland we decided to stop at Ballydugan Mill in Downpatrick, as we drove up to the Mill it was definitely appealing, once we got a look inside we knew it was the perfect venue for our wedding, it was magical and rustic, and every room wall and window would make a perfect photograph opportunity. We got our date booked for the 16 th of May 2015 which was perfect as the blossom trees would be blooming perfectly!

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I wore an elegant lace flare wedding dress with cap sleeves by Mori Lee. Because of my short hair I knew I wanted a headpiece, I wasn't going to go for a veil but once I tried the champagne veil with crystal drops I knew I had to get it, when else would I wear a veil again!

FINDING THE DRESS | It was the first dress I didn't want to take off. I visited about 5 shops and knew I wanted something lace with something a little extra. When I found my dress it was the colour that really caught my attention. It was a beautiful Champagne dress covered in lace with beautiful embellishments along the front and shoulders.

GROOM'S ATTIRE | Tim, being a researcher, had already the vision of what he wanted also; a 3 piece blue suit with a scooped waistcoat. After many websites we found the perfect suit in Focus Menswear in Bangor which my gorgeous new husband absolutely rocked!! The boys all wore different coloured socks and matching coloured buttonholes to tie in with the multi-coloured theme.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We picked readings that were focused on love and family as they would both be the most important thing to us on our wedding day! I love music so I wanted to hear it all day. We booked Arco string quartet to play from the ceremony till the start of dinner. Our mothers and bridesmaids walked into Christina Perri, ' A thousand years' and my father and I to 'Gabriels Oboe'. Tim's sister had her arm twisted into singing during the ceremony, the beautiful 'La Vie En Rose' in French and English.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I decided on a dusky pink Dessy dress for my bridesmaids Aimee, Sarah and Rachel. I felt the colours of the girl's dresses and mine really complimented each other. All the girls looked so beautiful and happy all day long and I couldn't have been happier to have them by my side.

THE FLOWERS | I inherit a love of flowers from my mum so I was so excited to see how they would turn out and was not disappointed by our florists talent. I wanted beautiful vintage / country style flowers which were brightly coloured. My own bouquet was my pride and joy I just didn't want to put it down. We had a large arrangement which sat at the table when we were signing the register. The centrepieces were styled like hand-picked country garden flowers.

THE CAKE | We picked a rustic cake to go with the theme, it had three different layers of raspberry and lemon flavoured Victoria sponge. The cake really was amazing looking as it was covered in flowers and strawberries. We decided to serve the cake after the ceremony with the refreshments, we had so many people compliment on how great the cake tasted so we were both glad the un-traditional timing of serving our cake went down a storm!

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Our photographers Francis and Sarah Meaney were just fab on the day of the wedding, we had an engagement shoot a few weeks previous so it was great to get to know the guys as we felt so comfortable on the day. Francis and Sarah's relaxed style was exactly what we wanted and we couldn't be happier with the photographs which have captured so many great moments of our day! Our favourite photos were taken by the lake near the Mill, the sun was starting to set so there was a beautiful light, it felt perfect to get away from everyone to spend time with each other and appreciating the beautiful location.

THE HONEYMOON | We have booked a two week trip around Italy for September as we wanted something to look forward to throughout the summer months and enjoy being married for a few months beforehand. We travel to the Amalfi Coast, Rome, Florence and finish off in Venice!

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Walking into the ceremony room with the string quartet playing and my gorgeous husband standing waiting for me! The room was so romantic with the rose petals on the ground and really was so quaint and atmospheric!

Our speeches were fantastic, they were so heart felt as well as hilariously funny! We both felt so proud and touched by everyone's kind words and thoughts.

Our first dance was a lot of fun for us, Tim and I spent a lot of first dates going to Belfast and hitting the dancefloor so once again we boogied like no-one was watching to Queen: Best Friend!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Enjoy the planning and try and involve your husband to be as much as possible as it is his day also. Especially try and enjoy the week coming up to the wedding, It's all about the excitement of collecting suits, dresses and rehearsals as the big day comes and goes in such a flash! Anything that goes wrong on the day laugh it off and enjoy the next moment!
