Intimate & Beautiful Iceland Destination Wedding - Whimsical...

Today we are super lucky to be headed to beautiful Iceland for Alison and Junior's intimate wedding. The setting was incredible, with the sweetest Church, breathtaking scenery and sunshine. Their day was all about creating memories, with an 8 course meal and dancing with their loved ones.

Utterly gorgeous.

Thanks so very much to Meet The Burks for sharing these divine images today.

FROM THE COUPLE | We visited Iceland the first time during a few days stopover on route to visit a good friend of ours in Europe. We absolutely fell in love with the country and people and made a few friends on the way. Since then we've been back a few times and it quickly became our favorite destination. When we decided to tie the knot, we knew we wanted a destination wedding because our friends and family are scattered across the globe. We are living and working in Toronto but our family is back in Vancouver while we have some friends studying/working abroad. We figured hey, if people are going to fly anyways, why not fly somewhere cool. After many months of researching, we decided that we didn't want a beach destination wedding down in the Caribbean's (we are not beach people). That's when we realized that Iceland was we are searching for all along. We wanted to share the country and destination we love with the rest of our friends and family!

The process went very smoothly. The Icelanders turned out to be an easy-going bunch and it helps that we had local contact that were able to help us get in touch with the vendors. After considering where to have to wedding, we found a small church on the south coast that reminded Alison of her favorite childhood book 'little house on the prairie' it was a little church on the prairie! It was love at first sight and luckily the minister was willing to marry us!

We arrived in Iceland few days beforehand to meet the local priest and vendors in person and finalized everything. One of our Icelandic friends, Bedda, runs a hostel in the heart of Reykjavík that allowed most of our guests to stay together. It was a very intimate feel because almost everyone was within 5 minute walk with one another of where they are staying. Bedda's place also served as a centralized point for our guests to gather and venture out from. We were so amazed at how many of our friends flew out to join us. Having just graduated, with many of our friends still in grad school we were expected a very small wedding, of just family and a few close friends. However we ended up with 35 guests which we though was crazy considering we were getting married in the middle of nowhere!! The days were amazing, when else do you get to go a vacation with all of your favorite people.

On the day of the wedding, the sun was shining and the weather was beautiful (the locals said that this is probably one of the best May days they have had!). We drove out of town in a line of caravan of eight cars and arrived at the idyllic ocean-side church at the edge of the Atlantic. We tied the knot and the priest related a wonderful story of the history of the church to the guests. Our photographers took beautiful pictures and we made several stops along the way back to town. It was an amazing ride being able to go on such an adventure with the most important people in our lives. The night ended with a reception at our favorite local restaurant, Sjávargrillið, who served an eight course meal highlighting the local fresh delicacies (including Puffin, Icelandic Lamb, and whale!). We ended the night at a guesthouse we rented and decorated for the after-party. Much dancing and music prevailed into the late hours of the night. The next day we bid some of our guests good bye with a soak at the famed Blue Lagoon before taking them to their flight. We flew out to Sweden and Turkey for our honeymoon a few days later.

(We noticed that since it's such a small country and population, alot of the vendor searching relied on the word of mouth and ended up being facebook contacts rather than a full website)

Amazing.

Thanks so much for sharing guys xo Lou
